The son of a classical composer and a fiction writer, Harold Shawn is a film composer, music producer, and songwriter. In 2004, while working as an intern at the Harvard University Hip Hop Archive and Research Institute (HARI), Harold’s even-keeled demeanor combined with his musicianship inspired his pseudonym, “Levelsoundz.”
As a child Harold took lessons in piano and violin and developed a strong interest in photography as well as film. During his summer break at age 12, he spent the majority of his time watching all of Alfred Hitchcock’s films and was struck by the scores, developing a life-long fascination with the power and complexity of music and sound. Harold studied Music Industry at Northeastern University and made a name for himself on the local music scene, collaborating with vocalists at nearby Berklee School of Music, and eventually earning air time on the radio. He graduated in 2012. While working in Video Production at the Boston Red Sox, Harold began to compose scores for the team’s advertisements. His work on a promotional film piece earned him a New England Emmy Award nomination.
In 2014, Harold returned to Harvard and spent five years as the HARI Program Director, meanwhile continuing to produce tracks for emerging Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop recording artists. A prolific creator, Harold “Levelsoundz” Shawn is prone to inspiration and stylistic evolution. His portfolio now boasts hundreds of songs as well as films of all lengths and genres. Harold lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
